No matter if your home was destroyed or you are still figuring out the damage, you deserve clear information and a chance to talk about your concerns.

Aspen Acres Fire: Investigation and Lawsuit Updates

Updated October 23, 2026

The Aspen Acres Fire started on June 29, 2026, near Aspen Acres Campground in Custer County, Colorado. It burned over 100,000 acres and caused severe damage to communities in southern Colorado.

In October, state investigators said that a strong wind knocked over an aspen tree, which hit live power lines and started the fire.

Residents have sued San Isabel Electric Association, claiming that poor vegetation management and problems with its electrical system helped cause the fire. A complaint filed on September 23 asks for compensation for destroyed property and other losses. These are still just allegations, not proven facts.

The investigation’s findings about how the fire started do not prove legal negligence or liability. If your family was affected, a case review can help you understand how these findings might relate to your losses.

Who May Have a Claim?

If you are a homeowner, renter, business owner, or own other property affected by the Aspen Acres Fire, your losses may be worth reviewing.

A case review may be appropriate if you experienced:

  • A destroyed or damaged home, rental property, or other structure.
  • Smoke, soot, or ash damage requiring assessment or cleanup.
  • Loss of furniture, vehicles, tools, equipment, or personal belongings.
  • Damage to land, trees, fencing, or other property improvements.
  • Evacuation expenses, temporary housing costs, or loss of use of your property.
  • Business interruption or lost rental income.
  • Physical injuries or other documented harm connected to the fire.

You don’t have to know exactly how much you lost before asking for a review. An attorney can help figure out which losses might support a claim under the law.

Find Out Whether Your Losses May Qualify

How a wildfire attorney can help

A wildfire attorney can look at your situation and help with:

Understanding potential responsibility
Reviewing investigation findings, available evidence, and the legal grounds for a claim.

Documenting the impact
Organizing photographs, repair estimates, property inventories, receipts, and other records that help explain what you lost.

Reviewing insurance and remaining losses
Looking at your insurance payments along with any costs or damage that still need to be addressed.

Explaining your next steps
Identifying applicable deadlines, answering questions, and helping you make informed decisions about pursuing a claim.

Insurance May Be Only Part of Your Recovery

Insurance payments might not cover everything your family or business lost after a wildfire.

If you’ve already received a payment, have an open claim, or aren’t sure if your coverage is enough, mention that in your case review. An attorney can explain how your policy, payments, and any releases you signed could affect your legal options.

Every situation is unique. Insurance or a lawsuit does not always mean you’ll recover everything.
